Tryouts

Evaluations occur so that players can play on a team and in a league with players of similar age and playing ability. In order to do this, CMRA holds assessments or tryouts that are used to formulate teams by rating player's abilities. All registered players can participate in try-outs and participate on a team. All players must be registered with BCRA before participating in any CMRA tryout, practice or game.

See the Practice Schedule for evaluation dates and times.

Players should be ready for try-outs and attend a pre-tryout meeting at the rink entrance 15 minutes before the tryout. All registered CMRA players are welcome to attend pre-tryout warm-up sessions to tryout skating and Ringette skills prior to the tryouts.

  • Session 1 will be geared towards evaluating skating, passing, shooting and ring stabbing skills. This section will account for 1/3 of the player's mark. Players can participate in a session one tryout for another age division if they cannot attend session one for their own age division. Any players who do not participate in session one will receive a score of zero. The player-ranking results will be decided by a pre-determined formula. These results will be available to CMRA members, upon request, at the end of the tiering season. For full details of the first evaluation session see Appendix A - CMRA Player Evaluations - Session 1 (304KB, PDF).
  • Session 2 will place as much emphasis as possible on game situations, such as drills involving one-on-one, two-on-one, three-on-two, etc. The emphasis will be on team skills such as understanding of the game, positional play, and team spirit. If available, coach input and player evaluations may be considered for coachability factors. Ideally, each evaluator has 5 or fewer players to assess. The evaluation committee prior to the session will complete planning and details of session two. This section will account for 1/3 of the players mark.
  • Session 3 may be in the form of a scrimmage or a game against another team. Ideally, each evaluator has 5 or fewer players to assess. This section will account for 1/3 of the players mark.
